Due to June club night clashing with the start of the Jubilee celebrations, we have rescheduled club night for 9th June.
May was a quiet month for the club, with only one event taking place. 7 members turned up for the club night.
Your committee met for their annual meeting. Plans were discussed for the clubs stand at this year’s Classic Car Show. The club has registered with the Lions. Details for members wishing to display their cars on the stand, contact Andy for our club code ASAP. More information can be found in the following note from the Lions Club. The members present also debated on how we can get more crews to compete on next seasons Navigational Scatter Championship. Bob and I are prepared to organise the events. Obviously one concern is the big rise in fuel prices. We may have to consider shortening the distance but keep the timing the same. Hopefully we can reach a format that will encourage more crews to come out. As several members will be away, June’s committee meeting has been cancelled.
If anybody is interested the Abingdon Carnival. Stage Rally is on the 11th – 12th June Marshals required. CAR-nival weekend includes a unique 2 Course Sprint, a Championship AutoSolo and a 70+ mile stage rally, all supported by free camping and caravanning, a Hog Roast and BBQ, Beer Tent and Live Comedy in the CAR-nival Marquee. Organised by a trio of clubs (Craven MC / Farnborough District MC / Sutton Cheam MC), CAR-nival owes its success to the efforts and support by up to 30 Southern-based clubs. Predominantly, CAR-nival is about serious motor sport but there is another very important element – Charity! For more information https://abingdoncarnival.com.
The Brooklands Festival of Motorsport – 18th & 19th of June. The event celebrates Brooklands’ rich motoring and motorsport history, and is always held on the weekend closest to the anniversary of the original opening of the race track on the 17th June 1907. Soak up the atmosphere of the site and see both current and vintage cars competing on the Speed Trials at Mercedes-Benz World on Saturday and then on the Driving Tests on Sunday, on the Banking and the Finishing Straight. Finally club member Teresa Butler is taking part in a charity skydive on 7th August and has roped in her consultant Dan to raise money for St Lukes cancer centre at Royal Surrey. So if any of you are able to sponsor her that would be great. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/dan-lindfield1
